Who Made You Feel Like That?
Own Your FDA Part One
No, I’m not talking about the Food and Drug Administration, I’m talking about three things that are often given into the hands of others when in fact they’re all yours. Just like the Food and Drug Administration is a regulatory agency that monitors and sets guidelines, the same can be said of you when you start owning your FDA.
F Stands for FEELINGS
“Making someone responsible for your misery also makes them responsible for your happiness. Why give that power to anyone but yourself?” – Scott Stabile
“You made me feel…”, “that made me feel…”, “it made me feel...” and “they made me feel…” – FACT: I’ve personally said all of those statements in my life, and I’m hoping that I’m not alone in this. When it comes to your feelings it can be all too easy to place the cause of those feelings externally on a person or a situation, fortunately (not a typo I mean fortunately) your feelings are all yours.
Yes, of course there may be some external trigger or event, but it’s the expectation and value that you place on a person or a situation that determines your initial reaction. Furthermore; when you feel something in your body, a stirring or an uptick in awareness, you are also the one that deciphers what that reaction means. You are the story teller, you’re the one that is determining your own feelings and those feelings are based on your own thoughts and judgements about the person or situation at hand.
I’m not saying that feelings are bad, they are wonderful, they are great both the happy ones and the sad ones. Once you become aware of your feelings and start owning them, you will increase your ability to feel what you want to feel without the interference of others.
